Get to know the Center & North of Portugal

Overview

The morning of the first day of this program consists of a Cacilheiros boat tour, a traditional ferry, along the waters of the Tagus River. This is followed by lunch where you can savor traditional sardines. The afternoon is spent exploring the streets of Lisbon with a walking tour through one of the most iconic places in Lisbon, Baixa and Chiado. To end the day, there will be a welcome dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

On the second day of this itinerary, the morning will be spent in Sintra, with a guided tour of the parish and the Pena Palace. Lunch will also take place in Sintra. Returning to Lisbon to make the most of the afternoon, we will pass through places like Estoril, Cascais, and Belém, to taste the Pastéis de Belém and visit the Jerónimos Monastery.

From Lisbon to Almourol on the third day, there will be a visit to the castle in the parish. Lunch will take place in the town of Tomar, where we will also visit the Convent of Christ. Accommodation on this third day will be in the Lousã area. A walk through the Lousã mountains and a visit to the Schist Villages is ideal for starting the fourth day. In the afternoon, the program includes a trekking session in the Schist Villages, as well as a traditional bread workshop. On the fifth day, we will cycle along the Dão Ecopista.

Moving on to the sixth day of this tour, we will travel to the Serra da Estrela, where we will visit the Tower and go hiking. The afternoon will be spent at the Burel factory in the Manteigas region. The seventh day consists of a visit to Sortelha and Belmonte, as well as a trip to the Miranda do Douro area. On the eighth day, it also begins in Miranda do Douro, with a traditional Burro Mirandês ride. In the afternoon, we will have kayaking on the Douro River. In the evening, there will be a performance by the Pauliteiros de Miranda.

Arriving at the ninth day of the trip, we start the day with a guided tour of the center of Porto, followed by a visit to the Ferreira cellars, where we will have a wine tasting. The next day starts with a cruise on the Douro River. The return to Porto will be done on the traditional roads of the Douro River. The eleventh day consists of a picnic in the Botanical Garden and a visit to the Cryptopórtico of the Machado de Castro Museum.

Day 3 Venture Into the Secrets of Marão

Marão is another mountain range located in the north of Portugal that sets the border between the regions of Minho and Trás-os-Montes. Because of this, it is the best place to enjoy the best of both regions, from the landscapes, to the culture, all the way to the food.

Day 4 Visit the Highest Point of Continental Portugal at Estrela

Along the journey, one gets to the Estrela mountain range where cities like Covilhã, Seia or Guarda will make you fall in love with the small urbanities of the country. Due to their distance from the bigger metropolises, these cities have very unique customs and traditions.

Day 5 Get Lost in Leiria’s Pine Forest

Leiria’s Pine Forest is one of the oldest man-planted forests in both Portugal and Europe. With over 11.000 hectares, it is home to an incredibly biodiversity and has amazing landscapes to see. With a rich past behind it, you will also get to know a bit more about Portuguese history.

Day 6 From the Woods of Buçaco to the Caramulo Range

At the National Woods of Bussaco, you will get to visit the Palace of Bussaco and its gardens which are to prime examples of ancient Portuguese luxury buildings. At Caramulo one can enjoy inspiring treks through mountain grounds and beautiful landscapes.
